Breweries in Sheffield

www.kelhambrewery.co.uk

Kelham Island Brewery was purpose built in 1990 on land adjoining the Fat Cat pub in Alma Street. The area is known as Kelham Island as the land is on an island formed by a mill race, leaving then running back into the River Don.

The brewing equipment was purchased from the Oxford Brewery and Bakehouse, and allowed for full mash brewing of approximately 20 barrels per week.

Kelham Island was the first new independent brewery in Sheffield in the last century. Due to it's success in the early years the brewery has moved into new, purpose built premises at Kelham Island, with 5 times the capacity of the original premises, which are now used as a visitors centre.

The following cask beers are regularly brewed: Devonshire Cat Bitter 3.8%, Best Bitter 3.8%, Easy Rider 4.3%, Fat Cat Bitter 4.4%, Pride of Sheffield 4.5%, Pale Rider 5.2%, Bete Noire 5.5%

Abbeydale Brewery was started in 1996 by Patrick Morton, previously of Kelham Island, the brewery is located in the south of the city in the Abbeydale area, which took it's name from Beauchief Abbey, a medieval monestary. It was built by men who were involved in the murder of Thomas a Becket, hence the ecclesiastical theme of the beers. The following cask beers are regularly brewed:

Matins 3.6%, Bitter 4%, Moonshine 4.3%, Absolution 5.3%, Black Mass 6.66%, Last Rites 11.5%
