'Real Ale' is a term used to describe cask conditioned beer. It is brewed in the traditional manner using quality ingredients, and is allowed to go through secondary fermentation in the cask after it leaves the brewery meaning the beer is fresh, and has a natural sparkling condition - there is no need to add artificial gas to make it fizz, smooth or creamy! Basically it's your top quality ale with nowt taken out that tastes and smells as the brewer intended! Beer comes in a number of different styles, all of which look and taste different - Bitter, Mild, Stout, Porter, Pale Ale, Old Ale, Barley Wine and Lager are all different styles of beer. You can find out more about beer styles by visiting the national CAMRA website - www.camra.org.uk On the opening day of the festival the beer list will appear below, although note last minute substitutions are sometimes made by the breweries. (It isn't published in advance to ensure the integrity of the blind tasting used to judge the champion beer competition and also to ensure accuracy). We aim to have every beer available when we open Thursday night (subject to the beer in the casks settling and being ready to serve in time), and we keep serving those beers until they run out (we only have one or two casks of each beer so once they are gone they are gone). This means the best choice will be opening night, and Saturday night will be a reduced choice - however we promise to have a bigger choice than any Sheffield pub right up to closing time! |
