Beer Capital Survey
return to home page Saturday 26th July
The Beer Capital Survey was originally designed to challenge Derby’s often repeated claim to be the Beer Capital of Britain, when we knew Sheffield has a bigger choice of real ale and also more award winning breweries.

The Survey has now become an annual census of the choice of beers available, with several pub crawls taking place on the same day taking in as many real ale pubs as possible, with participants writing down which real ales are available on the bar in each pub, and where possible, the prices being charged.

Last year we counted 184 different real ales on sale in Sheffield on the same day, which is quite impressive! We are looking for as many people as possible to join us this year, not only so we can survey as many pubs as possible but also to ensure it is an enjoyable social event too.

This years survey crawls take place on Saturday 26th July. The daytime crawls of the suburbs, villages and City Centre all start at midday at the pub furthest from town. Once completed, everyone will meet in the University Arms for 7pm, then the evening crawls from Hillsborough to Kelham Island will commence about 7:30pm.

Here are the details of all the routes we have planned. You are most welcome to join in!
